Developing Relationships - A key Tool In Self-Development
Developing relationships is very important in self-development. Relationships are not
just built in a day but are a process. People neglect the power of building
relationships as they are ignorant of how valuable it is in self-development.
Those around you matter. We need individuals to cheer us and correct our mistakes
or excesses, and that’s where developing good relationships comes to play in
self-development. Our everyday lives revolve around the relationships we build
with people around us; they may not necessarily be our friends, it could be
colleagues, and so on. The bottom line is, as you meet people in all spheres of
life, build a good relationship with them.
Self-development
implies that your input and the strength of others are needed to make it
worthwhile and a great experience. Developing a relationship that would stand
the test of time is essential. In this aspect, there are some things to note;
1. Celebrate Their Differences
This is key to
building great relationships. Know that we cannot all be the same, no one
individual is perfect, and that’s why we have to complement each other in terms
of ideas, to yield a better result. And accepting this makes you open to
building relationships. Having a standing relationship with people help you as
an individual to achieve a lot of things with ease and without struggle. You
can know your mistakes without feeling criticized. And then you are accountable
to people, leading to the quicker achievement of goals.
2. Listen To People
Building a
relationship with individuals shouldn’t be a one-sided thing or affair. It is a
give/give. Don’t have the mindset of going into a relationship to receive
without giving out. You should be ready to share knowledge and ideas even as
you desire more. You should be able to listen to your friends, colleagues, and
families while expecting them to listen to you. It shows you are concerned about the happenings in their lives. You do not give them any reasons to doubt their relationship with
you. You leave them every good reason to want to help you wherever and
whenever.
3. Time
Time is precious and sacrificial. Making time out of our busy schedules for our friends shows how much we value them. It is one of the best resources we can share or give to those around us. Life isn’t all about money but time. Money is a factor of time, so time is invaluable. In this aspect, communicate with those around you regularly to know how they feel. Out of your busy schedules, when trying to hustle and push for greater heights, build communication because you may not know who needs your help at that moment in terms of advice and all. Know that self-development is all around and impacts even those around us. Communication is vital as it helps you build great relationships, and you are not stranded when you need help in your self-development process.

4. Be Empathetic
Empathy makes you feel less of yourself as you can understand those around you. Their current challenges and how you can be of help to them. People may not ever be able to forget how you make them feel, as this leaves a lasting impact on them. Being empathetic helps us to listen and understand how those around us feel at a particular time and also how we can relate with them without hurting them or making them feel bad about their situation. Empathy is one great value we as individuals must imbibe in building relationships. It tells people who you are and keeps them in your life.
5. Building Trust
Building trust also
helps to develop a better relationship. Knowing that you have to trust someone
minimizes stress and makes life easier. Trust can be difficult, but if
successful gives you this peace as you don’t have to worry much about certain
things. Trust makes you open up your 20 years old secrets to an individual, and
you are much ok. Trust makes you tell your problems to an individual without
this feeling of discomfort. Trust makes you tell your next project to an
individual without this feeling of being stabbed. Trust makes you give your
time to an individual and builds reliability. Your self-development process
also implies trusting certain people and being accountable to them.
