Time management is very vital to our plans in life, but the fact remains that no one actually has a hold of time control or management. Time management is a misnomer in the sense that we can only have control over our plans, events, and schedules but not over time. Every day presents us with a standard 24 hours to work with. It is our responsibility to make sure our plans are in line with the moving time.

Our usage and effective management of events’ time are dependent on skills accrued from making plans, event evaluation, schedule analysis, and self-control. These qualities work together to give us the very best in handling the available time of the day.

As established earlier, we don’t have control over time but can make plans to go along with the available time of each day. Below are some of the ways we can effectively meet the goals of the day without worries about the available time.


How You Can Manage Your Events To Suit The Available Time

1.     Understand Your Time Usage

To be able to improve on the usage of your available time, you need to first understand how much time you spend doing a particular thing. Keeping records of your work time can be very useful in this area. It will guide you in determining which activity of the day takes the most time and which takes the least. 

From these records of events, you can make plans to suit your objectives. Look out if the task taking up most of the available time is very important to your progress. Understand how and where you can save extra time. Good knowledge of this practice will not only provide you with a good sense of the amount of time needed for a particular task but will also help you in proper planning and proper execution of daily routine tasks.


2. Set Priorities

The order of our priorities is very important in meeting our goals for a particular day. According to MacKenzie, 1990, there should be a clear discrepancy between what is good and what is urgent. When we misunderstand the difference between these two factors, there is bound to be a series of mistakes. There have been studies to show that very often that which we look to be a very important addition to our lives is not the most urgent.

The order of your priorities should be able to highlight that which is very urgent at the top. A to-do list can help us prioritize better. Figure out the most urgent and fix them before moving on to others.

Planning tools help to keep your daily objectives active and running. There are so many planning tools online that you can download to assist you in meeting your daily targets. Basically, planning tools should be able to do the following for you;

  • Build a priority order for daily targets

When using planning tools as assistance, you must endeavor to review your set plans every day. Keep the records of the day with you for easy access, have a backup file of your plans, and make sure your planner tool is active and running.  


4.     Organization

Another important factor that will help you in meeting up your set targets for the day is organization. It is very difficult to keep to the plan of an event when the situation is in disarray. The organization of a program is very important in meeting the set times of each event.

In cases where there are too many activities to be performed, do not overwhelm yourself with loads of work. Find a way to break it into smaller units by sharing the duties in an organized manner.


5.    Use The Available Time Effectively

It is not how long you stay pondering over a thing that matters but how well you respond to it. Make proper plans to fit the available time. Having a clear-cut schedule not only enables you to know where to be at a given time but also enables you to perform the exact duty at a record time.

A good schedule is very important to meet your daily goals. With a clear understanding of your time usage for different tasks, you can come up with a schedule that will enable you to effectively execute tasks without spending more time than necessary. Remember to prioritize the most urgent first even when creating your schedule for the day.


6.    Seek Help

You should be able to tell the limit to what you can do. No doubt, it is good to push yourself to do more but to avoid a breakdown, seek assistance from competent hands.

When you have bulky tasks to perform, break them into smaller units and outsource them to competent people who can deliver the job as stated.


7.    Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination is very deadly to every form of progress. You must endeavor to quit procrastination as it is capable of limiting your chances of meeting your goals.

No matter the nature of the job, find a motivating factor to hold on to and get to work. If the job requires that you outsource it, do just that and follow up with the progress of the job. Do not give room to procrastination, it will cripple your dreams if given the opportunity to function.


8.    Stay Healthy

Our health is one vital factor that is often neglected once we get immersed in the tasks of the day. Your state of health and mind affect your general well-being and performance.

Exercise regularly and eat good foods. Abstain from junks, it will not do you much good. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Go out with friends for fun and to ease your mind. Activities like these rejuvenate your body and help to get along with the tasks of the day.
